Ambi Climate 2.0

SideChef 4.0

Ambi Climate is an AI-powered air condition controller that intelligently adjusts the temperature of a room to ensure maximum comfort.

Ambi wanted to position their device as a smart lifestyle product yet their existing product experience struggled to meet that target. By leveraging a Kickstarter campaign, they hoped to reinvent their identity by launching a redesigned and more refined product.

This project was completed at Build Republic

In 2018, SideChef was looking to unify and strengthen its brand identity for all segments of SideChef, which included a new branch of original content—Culinary Studio.

The core of SideChef was to be an approachable, hip, and stylish, end-to-end platform for cooking, but we lacked a strong visual identity to carry this message.

Through working with the Ambi team, we found that their existing design lacked design refinement causing user skepticism about the product's effectiveness. Due to its look, users were inclined to hide the device, reducing its connectivity and further reducing its effectiveness.
We re-imagined the Ambi Climate as an object that could fit seamlessly into a home. We wanted a look that communicated reliability while staying true to Ambi’s Asian roots.
We created two new directions and interviewed users to gather insights. Our hypothesis was that material impacted the perception of quality was validated. People connected wood with keywords such as “homey” and “furniture” while polished metal was connected with “hi-tech” and “smart”.
In the end, we proceeded with the design that resonated the most with our desired product identity.
